FamTales Privacy Policy

FamTales ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of families who use our personalized storybook app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use FamTales.

Our Commitment to Children's Privacy

FamTales is designed for families with children ages 2-12. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and do not knowingly collect personal information from children without parental consent. Parents and guardians create and manage all account information.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

When you use FamTales, you may provide:

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique user identifier. We do not receive your email address unless you choose to share it.
  • Family Profiles: Names, relationships (Mom, Dad, Grandma, etc.), and visual attributes (hair color, skin tone, etc.) for family members you create. This information is stored locally on your device.
  • Child Information: For child profiles, you provide a first name, age, and visual attributes. This information is used solely to personalize stories and is stored locally on your device.
  • Pet Profiles: Names, types, and colors of pets you add to your family.

Information Created Through Use

  • Stories: The personalized stories we generate for you, including text and illustrations, are stored locally on your device.
  • Purchase Information: When you subscribe or make purchases, RevenueCat (our payment processor) processes your transaction. We receive confirmation of your subscription status but do not see your payment details.

Information We Do Not Collect

  • We do not collect photos of children
  • We do not collect precise location data
  • We do not collect contact lists or address books
  • We do not use behavioral advertising or tracking
  • We do not sell any personal information

2. How We Use Information

We use information solely to provide FamTales services:

Generate audio narration Story text only (no personal data)
Process subscriptions Apple user ID, purchase confirmations
Improve the app Anonymized, aggregated usage statistics

Story Generation Process

When you create a story, we send the following to our AI service providers:

  • First names of selected family members
  • Visual descriptions (hair color, etc.)
  • Your selected story settings, adventures, and themes

We do not send last names, ages, photos, or other identifying information to AI services.

3. Third-Party Services

FamTales uses the following third-party services:

4. Data Storage and Security

Local Storage

Family profiles, stories, and illustrations are stored locally on your device using Apple's secure data storage. This data:

  • Remains on your device
  • Is not uploaded to our servers
  • Is protected by your device's security features
  • Can be deleted by you at any time

No Cloud Storage of Personal Data

We do not maintain servers that store your family information or stories. Your data stays on your device.

Secure Transmission

When generating stories, data is transmitted using industry-standard encryption (HTTPS/TLS).

5. Parental Controls

Parents and guardians have full control over FamTales:

  • Create and Edit: Only parents can create family member profiles
  • Delete: Remove any family member, pet, or story at any time
  • Reset: Completely reset the app and delete all data from Settings
  • Parental Gate: Sensitive actions (settings, purchases, deletions) require solving a math problem to prevent accidental changes by children

To Delete Your Data

  1. Open FamTales
  2. Go to Settings (requires parental gate)
  3. Select "Delete All Data" or delete individual items
  4. Confirm deletion

6. Children's Privacy Rights (COPPA)

Under COPPA, parents have the right to:

  • Review personal information collected about their child
  • Request deletion of their child's information
  • Refuse further collection of their child's information

Since all data is stored locally on your device, you can exercise these rights directly within the app. No request to us is necessary.

7. Data Retention

  • Local Data: Stored on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app
  • AI Service Data: Story generation requests are processed in real-time and not stored by our AI providers beyond their standard operational requirements
  • Purchase Data: Maintained by Apple and RevenueCat per their retention policies

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last Updated" date. Continued use of FamTales after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

10. California Privacy Rights

California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Since we do not sell personal information and store data locally on your device, most CCPA provisions are satisfied by our existing practices. Contact us if you have specific questions.

11. International Users

FamTales is operated from the United States. If you use FamTales from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States when stories are generated.
